I have two cherry tomato plants growing in my garden and not one cherry has made it into my kitchen. When I’m taking care of my garden, I pick them, and eat them right on the spot. But to see the amount of cherry tomatoes in these baskets makes me wonder just how many plants the farmer puts out. The Farmer’s Market has an abundance of tomatoes right now and the tables are full of red, yellow and black cherry tomatoes. I love them all, but I’m partial to the gold ones.
These tomatoes are grown by Ramon Perez of RP Ranch in Placerville, California who has been a long time vendor at the market and his produce is always top quality. Ramon loves to give out samples and always had a kind word.
We are grilling out tonight, actually we grill out almost every night, but tonight I’m going to make a big ta-do and grill my appetizer and dessert too. That’s where the tomatoes come in. I wanted to try grilling the tomatoes in parchment paper or “en papillote” on the grill, and at the same time not catch the paper on fire. My solution; put the tomatoes on the pizza stone. It works great!

1 baquette – sliced
6. Cut the baguette into about 3/4″ slices and drizzle with olive oil or use a pastry brush.
7. When the stone is nice and hot place the parchment pouch of tomatoes on it and let cook for 25-30 minutes.
8. When the tomatoes are close to being done put your bread on the grill to toast. Watch carefully so they don’t burn. I had some extra bread so I put it on the pizza stone and it toasted the bread beautifully. There’s no picture of that because someone ate it before I could snap a shot of it.

I sat this platter down on the table and let everyone dig in. The crispness of the toasted bread soaked up the juices from the tomatoes and the mozzarella continued to melt even further. Since this cooked quickly all the flavors of the tomatoes, garlic and basil were still vibrant. I just wished I had doubled this recipe since we devoured this in no time. The next time I make it, we will just have this for our meal, we liked it that much.
