After a day of exploring San Francisco I needed some coffee. Luckily, being in North Beach, the Italian neighborhood in San Francisco, I found a great coffee shop called Caffe Roma on Columbus. This was not just any coffee shop, they actually roast their own coffee, and let me tell you, my coffee was smooth and deep flavored. But what goes with coffee, pastry right? Since I’m such a sucker for pastry their case immediately caught me eye. I see cannoli, biscotti, coffee cake and what, what is that; something I have never seen before and it looks very intriguing. The sign said “Lobstertail”, hmmm; I had to ask. The lobstertail is actually called Sfogliatella which is an Italian pastry made up of layers and layers of very thin pastry and is filled with a candied orange ricotta filling. Oh, so good.
I’m just going to post my picture so you can see this very unique and scrumptious dessert and all those luscious layers of pastry. I know I will have to try making these soon. From what I’ve read it looks pretty complicated, so maybe I’ll just have to go back to North Beach.
