Just imagine opening your oven door

Your bread has risen perfectly.

Your apple pie is brown and bubbling.

The warm, sugary scent of baking wafts throughout your home, drawing your friends and family into the kitchen and making them clamor for a slice of the amazing bread or pie you have made. This is what happens when you mix simple ingredients like flour, butter, and sugar and transform them into creative and unique homemade baked goods that taste amazingly delicious.

This kind of sounds like a dream, but I’m telling you people will come, and they will want a taste.

Are you ready to bake something wonderful?

The trick to being a good baker is to turn your oven on and bake

Start baking something easy like cookies or muffins; this is the best way to learn to bake. Trust me, you will have many successes and some failures. Still, to this day, I may have burnt bread or a tasteless cake come out of my oven. But as you keep baking and trying different recipes, your skills will increase, and before long, you will become a confident baker.

A little about Jere’

Growing up on a farm in Indiana, I learned to cook for a large family and hired men.  Hanging out in the kitchen with my mother and grandmother was the best part of my day, watching and helping them cook and bake.  Later, joining the 4-H baking club taught me how to make ten cakes just to get the perfect one to exhibit at the fair. I further developed my skills in culinary school and found a deeper appreciation and understanding of the baking process, and my passion for baking.

A new venture in my cooking and baking career is judging food events for California and Arizona FCCLA. Here, kids from all over the states come together and present their culinary creations, and I get to judge their wedding cakes, bread baking, patisserie, and more.

How One Hot Oven® Started

In 2012, fresh out of culinary school at the age of 53, I discovered that working in restaurants wasn’t my passion. However, my love for cooking and baking was too strong to ignore, so I decided to start this blog—and I’m thrilled to say it’s still going strong today! I enjoy sharing my favorite recipes.

The name of my blog, “One Hot Oven,” comes from my husband, who jokingly remarked that my oven seems to be on all the time. It perfectly captures my kitchen’s warm and inviting atmosphere, and I’m excited to take you along on this culinary journey!

My food articles are in the popular digital magazine Food Drink Life, and with MSN, along with these major publications:

As seen on…

Beyond the blog

Just some fun things about me

  • I am married to Paul, the Irish potato farmer from Northern Maine; we met on a blind date!!!!
  • I am a mom to Juliane and Bevyn; both are better cooks and bakers than I am.
  • We still eat dinner together every night. It’s the best part of the day.
  • I love tea and have way too many teapots and lots and lots of tea. My favorites are Oolong, Darjeeling, and Pu-erh. My daughter Bevyn runs @todayscupoftea, where you can find all the teas we drink.
  • I am a big San Francisco Giants baseball fan, and luckily we get to see a lot of games not only at Oracle Park but all over. Eventually, we will visit all of the ballparks.
  • I dream of one day having a little cabin on a beach.
  • I grew up in a town of 2000 people in Hagerstown, Indiana and now live in El Dorado Hills, California, from cornfields to the foothills of the Sierras.

Baking can be easy or intricate. Whatever your skill level, there is a recipe for you, which is why I am here. We eat all of the recipes I share with you here at the Cassidy house. Most have been made countless times, and many are family traditions.

Let’s bake together

Thank you for spending your time with me as I share my love of food. Over the years, hearing from my readers and fellow bakers has also been a pleasure. Feel free to contact me at [email protected]
