In a small bowl, melt the butter.
In a medium bowl, combine the cake mix and the melted butter. Stir with a fork until it is crumbly and coarse.
Spread the cherry pie filling across the bottom of the baking dish.
Sprinkle the cake mix and melted butter over the pie filling in an even layer.
Sprinkle with the chopped pecans.
