Baking desserts and drinking tea

  • With so many families living far and wide, it is hard to stay connected. Our solution to bring good tidings and cheer to friends and family is baking some of our favorite Christmas desserts and pairing them with our favorite teas. These recipes are perfect for serving at parties, brunches, or on Christmas day.
  • Bake a recipe and give it as a gift. Receiving a box of homemade cookies or muffins, or even some candy is always a welcome treat, along with a special tea.
  • Bake your treats and package them along with the tea, include a beautiful card, and deliver them, or in my case, I mail them to my family. Now, my mother and I can be together for afternoon tea even though we are hundreds of miles apart. My two daughters and I get together on video while eating cookies and muffins and drinking tea together.  It’s a new tradition.

Here, you can find twelve easy desserts and candy with my favorite teas.

day 1 wreathPecan Tassies paired with Jasmine Tea

On the first day of Christmas tea pairing, we made a family favorite: Pecan Tassies. These sweet little pies have a luscious filling with plenty of pecans. The floral notes of the Jasmine Green Tea enhance the nutty sweetness of the pecan tassies. Brewing a pot of tea releases the delicate perfumy scent of the jasmine flowers, which tastes like no other tea.

Nothing says Christmas more than a batch of festive cookies to help spread the holiday’s cheer.  Today, we are wrapping presents and making wreaths with our friends.  Bringing out a tray of these colorful Christmas Sprinkle Cookies was a perfect way to help celebrate our afternoon, and pairing these cute cookies with hot pots of Dark Chocolate Tea from SerendipiTea made for a warm and cozy gathering.   The dark chocolate tea is perfect for pairing with cookies that hide a chocolate filling. Who doesn’t like chocolate?

On the 3rd day of Christmas tea pairings, a cake seemed appropriate. It is hard to resist a slice of this Maple Apple Skillet Cake, and pairing it with a full-bodied toasty oolong tea compliments the sweet maple and apple flavors.  It’s a perfect pair.

The best time to eat a muffin is when your cup of tea is ready.  We have been making pots of this very aromatic Apple Cider Tea from Classy Hippie Tea that is perfect to pair with  Maple Walnut Muffins. It is amazing how white tea, apple pieces, hibiscus blossoms, cinnamon sticks, almonds, rosehip, elderberries, sultanas, and star anise all brew into a delightful cup of tea that evokes such a subtle flavor that still lets the maple flavor of the muffin shine.  This tea is extraordinarily good.

These Spiced Madeleines are eloquent little cakes that need something special to go with them.  The delicate flavor of bergamot, orange, and lemon make Lady Grey Tea perfect for pairing with the spices and the sweetness of the madeleines.

day 6 wreath logoCranberry Winter Fruit Salad with paired with Varieteas ~ Merry Cranberry Tea

No matter what time of day we eat this Cranberry Apple Fruit Salad, there is always a cup of tea nearby.  This Christmas season Varieteas is offering their delightful tea called  Merry Cranberry which is a black tea mixed with raspberry leaves and cranberries. The delicate sweetness of the tea provides a wonderful contrast to the tartness of the salad. The aroma is relaxing, and the flavor is light to enjoy at any time of the day.

day 7 wreath logoCinnamon Rock Candy paired with Mullin Spice Tea

With visions of sugarplums, this season, we made some beautiful Cinnamon Rock Candy to give as gifts.  Everyone loves receiving this candy nestled inside a cute jar with powdered sugar sprinkling down the nooks and crannies.  After a fun day of candy making, sitting down with a few spicy nibbles and a delicious hot cup of tea is the perfect way to end the day.   Today’s tea is a bit unique since we brewed mulling spices. The orange peel, cloves, allspice, and cinnamon made a delightful pairing with the cinnamon candy, just the perfect flavor to go with the spicy candy.

Christmas and cookies are always a holiday favorite.  These Ginger Spice Cookies are a family favorite; we bake them yearly for the holidays.  These make the perfect cookie gift since they are easy to wrap, and everyone loves these spicy cookies.  To make the gift more special, include your favorite tea.  Today, we are enjoying my favorite Darjeeling tea.  This tea has a fragrant aroma with a mild sweetness, and it doesn’t cover up the ginger in the cookies.

There is nothing better than the smell of bread baking in your oven. Oh, but there is something better, it’s eating a slice of warm Orange Cranberry Bread paired with a very aromatic Chocolate Cinnamon Spice Tea,  it’s just a delicious and tasty duo.  This red rooibos tea from The Loose Leaf has bits of cocoa nibs, orange peel, cinnamon chips, ginger, and cloves that brews into a subtly flavored tea with just the right hints of chocolate and cinnamon that pairs so well with the tart cranberries.

Now every good plate of cookies has a perfect tea to go with it.  These wonderful Decorated Christmas Tree Cookies are paired with a Spiced Ginger Plum Tea from Tea Forte’s Warming Glow Collection.  This is a perfect pairing as the buttery plum flavor of the tea brings out the spices of the cookies and actually enhances the overall deliciousness of these cookies. Both the tea and the cookie have a subtle ginger flavor that is pure magic when enjoyed together.

day 11 wreath logoChocolate Chip Peppermint Scones paired with Golden Assam Tea

Are you baking for the holidays? This Chocolate Chip Peppermint Scones recipe takes a traditional scone and makes it a lovely holiday treat.  You will love these rich and tender scones with mini chocolate chips and peppermints inside and a crunchy candy cane topping on top.  I actually had this recipe in mind to pair with one of my favorite teas, Golden Assam. This rich dark tea, with its malty flavor, pairs so well with the robust flavors in the scones.  So after you make these scones and brew a pot of tea take a moment to relax and enjoy a bit of solitude from the business of the holidays.

This Cranberry Apple Galette is a delicious rustic dessert with just a bit of decadence. I’ve been waiting to have a slice with a cup of my favorite oolong tea.  The buttery floral taste of this tea pairs with the buttery crust and the sweet apples of the galette.
