Special days mean special desserts that can be elegant, indulgent, or simply just a favorite treat. A box of chocolates is always appreciated but a homemade treat is always better.

There are so many delicious recipes that you can make for Valentine’s Day that I decided to put them all in one place. Cookies, cakes, tarts, and more are not only tasty but also deliciously festive to add to a romantic meal for your best valentine or make for a cozy date night.

Let’s start with Valentine’s cookie recipes because Valentine’s Day gifts of cookies are easy to wrap up in a box or tray with a big red bow.

Iced Thumbprint Cookies

There are a lot of thumbprint cookie recipes but these sweet bite-sized cookies are a favorite. Roll these cookies in red, pink, and white nonpareil sprinkles, and when they are done fill them with creamy icing. You can make the icing all red, or all pink, or mix them for a pretty presentation.

This is my hubby’s favorite cake because it’s chocolate and it’s made with stout beer; that’s what he likes. And, what better way to give your sweetie chocolate for Valentine’s Day than to make their favorite Chocolate Stout Cake? I know, when you think of gelatine dessert recipes you may think of grandma’s church jello. This Strawberry Gelee is like a wine cocktail that jiggles. You may think this is just jello, but with one bite, you will find a velvety smooth, luscious dessert. You can even make this ahead of serving time.

Tips for making desserts easier

All of these desserts can be made ahead of time. You can premake cookie dough and store it in the fridge for a couple of days, or make the cookies and store them in an airtight container.

Make the cake the day before serving and store it with a cake dome.

Tarts are kind of iffy and don’t keep long, but you can make the shortbread crust earlier and then add the filling later, which makes these tarts really easy.

Everyone asks about the gelee. This is such an amazing and simple dessert to make. It can be made several days before you need it. Just add the whipped cream topping right before serving and a red ripe strawberry on top. Everyone will love this pretty red dessert.
