Are you a ginger lover? I am. I love the kick of flavor it provides.
Ginger is good for spicing up all kinds of dishes and desserts, from triple ginger cookies, and gingerbread cake, to lemon ginger sponge cake. And it’s a tummy soother.
Make this tea to warm you up on those cold days. It’s quick to make with just three ingredients, and sometimes, I like to add some extra flavors like lemon or mint.

Recipe Ingredients
Fresh ginger is steeped in hot water to create the base for this tea. It gives the tea a stronger, more intense flavor than powdered ginger.
Honey sweetens the tea and offsets the ginger with a sweet, slightly floral flavor. If you're vegan, you can use agave nectar or maple syrup to sweeten the tea instead.
Cinnamon, turmeric, mint, orange, or lemon are all great options for adding another dimension of flavor to your honey ginger tea. Make sure to use just one!
How To Make Fresh Honey Ginger Tea
Step 1. Slice ginger and lemon into thin slices. Freeze any leftover ginger for future use.
Step 2. Place one cup of water in a pot and turn on medium-high heat. Once the water is heated, add the ginger slices.
If adding additional flavorings, add a cinnamon stick, turmeric, or mint to the pot as well (only add one of these flavorings).
Step 3. Bring to a boil, stir the pot, then turn off the heat and allow to steep for 4-5 minutes. Then, pour the tea into a mug or mason jar, using a strainer to remove the ginger.
Step 4. Add honey to taste and stir to incorporate it with the tea.
Step 5. Add a slice of lemon or orange, if desired, and enjoy!
Add Additional Flavors
If adding additional flavorings, add a cinnamon stick, turmeric, or mint to the pot as well (only add one of these flavorings).
What To Pair with Honey Ginger Tea
Tea isn't complete without a fresh baked good! Here are some ideas for what to serve alongside:
- Homemade biscuits or orange tea biscuits (especially if you opt for adding orange slices) go great with this tea.
- Scones are classic to serve with tea! Try cranberry orange scones, Earl grey scones, or blueberry scones with lemon glaze.
- A shortbread cookie is slightly on the sweeter side but great with this ginger tea. Try lemon shortbread cookies, chai shortbread, or rose shortbread.
Ginger Tea FAQ's
To make this tea vegan, simply replace the honey with maple syrup or agave nectar. Agave will better approximate the honey flavor.
If you plan to make more tea in the future, thinly slice the ginger and then freeze it. That way you can make tea with fresh ginger any time you want!
